NIGC MEMBERS WIN HOLIDAY HOME DECORATION AWARDS

Several Garden Club members who have decorated their home for the holiday season have won Awards of Recognition by the Naples Island Association. Lisa Mauck {”Excellence” winner below} noted for her Holiday lighting design,“You can see it from the Space Station!” CONGRATULATIONS!

HOLIDAY LUNCHEON

What better way to enjoy time with friends than to visit in a place that is beautifully decorated for the holidays, the warmth of a fire glowing in the hearth, gifts donated from the heart and knowing that they bring joy to a number of families in the Long Beach area. How fortunate we are! The Fire Department is so appreciative of our participation in the “Spark of Love” toy drive and the ambiance at Virginia Country Club creates a wonderful venue to present such an event. It is good to remember that this occasion is not just about the food, but the sharing of friendship and kindness. Happy New Year, everyone!

“SPARK OF LOVE” TOY DRIVE SUCCESS

Thank you, thank you one and all for your generous gift giving to the “Spark of Love” toy drive! Your efforts will bring joy to four hundred families in Long Beach. Six hundred dollars was donated by members and gift cards were purchased by a committee who concentrated on ideas for "the tween years" recipients. Thank you to committee members, Julie Taboada, Judy Taylor, Linda Pillsbury and Lynne Misajon.

NIGC LUMINARIA NIGHT 2018

The Naples Islands Garden Club and its Bellas Committee enjoyed putting together luminarias again this year at Bella Fontana Park in Naples, toasting the Holidays once they completed their task. After dark the Bay Shore Community Congregational Church Choir led the gathering of locals in holiday caroling and passed around hand held candles, adding a festive touch to the already delightful scene!

THANK YOU CUB SCOUTS!

Cub Scout Troop 105/007 and Leaders distributed trash boxes around Naples the morning of the Boat Parade then collected them the following day. These boxes are purchased with an annual contribution from NIGC.

NIGC VETERANS DAY 2018

Each Veterans Day the Naples Islands Garden Club organizes a gathering to honor our veterans and their families. This year, we recognized these brave men and women with a touching ceremony, including the presentation of a floral wreath, the Boy Scouts' posting of the colors and Pledge of Allegiance, Suzie Price's inspirational speech, and Marilyn Bittle's golden voice leading us in singing “God Bless America.” In addition to introducing each of our veterans, Marianne Huntley, Garden Club president, highlighted our beautiful, newly renovated La Bella Fontana Park, the perfect backdrop for this special event.

HOLIDAY FUNDRAISER SUCCESS!

Many thanks to all the members and their guests who participated in the 2018 Holiday Fundraiser, Sunday, November 4 at Romance, etc. We raised $4,101.11! We collected $2,557 from members and guests and another $1,621 from store sales. Way to go! Carol and I truly appreciated all the support we received from Naples Islands Garden Club members who provided food, beverages, paper goods, and set-up/ clean-up support. You are all awesome! Save the date of Sunday, November 3, 2019 for next year's Holiday Fundraiser.

FLOWER DUET

Back by popular demand Casey Coleman Schwartz gave us many hints on flower arranging using different colors for various seasons. 80% of all flowers are grown in California. Casey demonstrated “bundling”, making small bouquets held together with rubber bands in one vase so if you are having guests they can each take a small bouquet home. Then Casey demonstrated the technique of “gather, drop and fill”. Gather the flowers, drop them in a vase then fill in with greenery and more flowers. Several hints were given by Casey: 1) No greenery below the water line of your vase 2) Get flower stems in water within 10 seconds of cutting. 3) Cut all stems at a slant in order for the flowers to drink water

NIGC DINE OUT NIGHTS “WIN WIN” !

Both Dine Out events this fall were a huge success. Nico's brought in $710.00 and Naples Ribs brought in $613.00. Dave Ursini from Naples Ribs donated 25% instead of 20% because he was so pleased with the turnout. Thank you Dave! Stay tuned for two more Dine Out events in the Spring.
