NIGC Plant Boutique at NIA Pancake breakfast 2019!

NIGC put on a 'pretty face' at the annual Plant Boutique on June 1 at Sandy Davidson's home. Lovely succulent gardens designed by Debbie Tebrich and blooming gardens were sold, as well as H+H Nursery's donated plants and potting soil and organic fertilizers donated by Kellogg. New this year were indoor plants which proved to be quite popular. Sales of all items were brisk and we sold it all! The profit was $2324 for the Beautification Fund and the attractive booths branded NIGC as a savvy horticultural club. The 2020 Plant Boutique will be held on Saturday, May 30 and will be co-chaired by Kay Bailey and Maureen Schultz.

Park Flag Replaced

As Spring 2019 came in “like a lion” the flag flying at La Bella Fontana park showed considerable wear and needed to be respectfully replaced. Once again, Mike Frakes, owner of Tri-City Tree Service, came to our aid and provided an experienced crew to climb the tall ladder to change out the flags. Mike also takes the damaged flag for disposal and ensures that it is handled in a proper and honorable way. Our new flag flying has been donated by Charl Alber in memory of Charles R. Alber, US Army, WWII. Hopefully with the return of milder weather it will fly proudly for months to come.

Beautification Summer 2019

There was no 2019 summer vacation for the leaders and teams who garden at NIGC beautification projects. Naples School volunteers led by Debbie Tebrich kept their gardening steady throughout the summer in anticipation of the Measure M work, scheduled to begin in September. Stay tuned for details. Naples Plaza medians continued to look their best as Ginny Clark and volunteers weeded, treated mildew and deadheaded the Iceberg roses which responded with splendid cycles of blooming. Appreciate their efforts as you walk by or drive by ! La Bella Fontana leaders Tish Camp and Linda Frame held a series of gardening afternoons by the Bellas and concentrated on the new challenge of invasive nutgrass,

Summer Time in Provence 2019

On a beautiful June 12th, 2019 ninety-nine members and their guests enjoyed a taste of the French countryside at the Annual Luncheon themed “Summertime in Provence”. Ladies dined on a delicious cobb salad and decadent chocolate mousse cake for dessert. Sunny yellow sunflowers filled the room and adorned the tables at Old Ranch Countryclub. The décor highlight was the lifesize cutout of Louis Jourdan and a flower-filled bicycle basket, perfect for photos. French café music filled the room from a selection of songs custom curated by Lynn Danielson. “Twenty Year Certificates” were presented by Marianne Huntely to Deborah Clawson, Gloria Gesselman and Ruth Gries for their twenty years of service
