Horticulture Scholarship

Naples Islands Garden Club supports horticulture scholarship to inspire future gardeners and conservationists. This effort ensures sustainable practices and beauty in Long Beach while nurturing both the community and younger generation.

Scholarship Awards

Naples Islands Garden Club has long been a cornerstone of community enrichment, fostering a passion for gardening while championing environmental stewardship and neighborhood beautification. A scholarship program initiated in 1994 by Joe and Laurie Scanlin has given over $100,000 to over eighty horticulture majors at Long Beach City College so far. Central to its mission is the support of horticulture scholarship, a vital initiative that empowers the next generation of plant scientists, landscapers, and conservationists. By investing in education, NIGC not only preserves the rich legacy of horticulture but also ensures the continued cultivation of sustainable practices and aesthetic excellence in Long Beach and beyond.

NIGC is proud to award scholarships to worthy horticulture students at Long Beach City College. Each year we review applicants that inspire us by their challenges and goals. Many of our recipients go on to four year colleges to complete their degrees. We believe our program is one of the most important ways we benefit our community and the future of our recipients. We are grateful to Joe and Laurie for establishing the foundation that funds this program.
